Your account is rendered completely independently from the accounts rendered by a hospital, day clinic/hospital, any other doctor, radiology, laboratory and pathology tests.
All service providers charge their own professional fees.
DO NOT IGNORE OUTSTANDING ACCOUNTS! - An account remains your responsibility.
It is your responsibility to make appropriate arrangements to repay any debts due.
The law states that you are ultimately responsible to ensure that when you request the service of a service provider that their account is paid in full, whether by your medical scheme or yourself, irrespective if the service provider notifies you or not.
MEMBERS OF MEDICAL SCHEMES
It is your responsibility to confirm benefits and authorisation with your medical scheme BEFORE any medical consultation/treatment.
Benefits and authorisations are dependent on the medical scheme and plan option you have chosen - It is your responsibility to contact your medical scheme.
Authorisation is NOT a guarantee of payment.
Your medical scheme may not cover the full amount on your account - An account remains your responsibility.
You must be informed of any co-payments and/or any costs that might be charged above scheme rate before any medical consultation/treatment, if you're on a medical scheme or not (private).
Accounts must be submitted within 4 months from the date of service to your medical scheme.
Be 100% sure that your accounts are by the book and any short payments thereof, if applicable, were valid short payments.
Know your medical scheme and plan option rules and benefits.
Please be respectful and understanding and follow your service providers' rules and guidelines.
Know the healthcare industry rules and guidelines.
Know the difference between a medical scheme and a medical insurance.
Know the difference between balance billing and split billing.
SHOULD YOU REQUIRE URGENT MEDICAL ASSISTANCE, you should go to your nearest hospital trauma/casualty/emergency unit IMMEDIATELY and advise the unit IMMEDIATELY of your emergency!
